Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, fought several battles to regain his country's freedom but each time was defeated. Naturally, he was very sad. One day while laying down in his hiding place, he noticed a spider trying to reach the ceiling with the help of its silken thread to complete the cobweb. The spider tried again and again to go up but dropped down every time. Six attempts made by the spider failed one after another. But it did not give up the struggle and went on trying. Bruce observed after seventh attempt it succeeded to reach the ceiling. The perseverance of the spider encouraged Bruce. He saw a ray of hope in him. Then he brought his scattered forces together and faced his enemies once more with renewed energy. This time he prevailed over his enemies and succeeded in defeating them.

Robert the Bruce dreamed of freeing Scotland from enemy rule. He fought many wars for his country, but unfortunately he lost every battle. After so many defeats, he became hopeless and took shelter in a lonely hiding place.
One day, while lying there, he noticed a spider trying to spin its web on the ceiling. The spider climbed up using a thin thread, but each time it slipped and fell. Still, it did not stop trying. Again and again it made attempts to reach the top. Though it failed six times, the little creature did not lose heart. Finally, on the seventh try, the spider succeeded.
Watching the spider gave Bruce a new lesson about patience and determination. He realized that success comes to those who never give up. Inspired by the spider, he gathered his soldiers once again and prepared for another battle. This time he fought bravely and defeated his enemies. At last, he succeeded in winning freedom for his country.
